Bucks Draft; Enough To Keep The Team Here?

AdetokunpoGiannis Antetokounmpo (YAHN-iss Ahn-teh-toe-KUHN-poe), Ersan Ilyasova,  Luc Mbah a Moute and Ekpe Udoh…..the Bucks have won the “All Name Team Championship” but that’s about as close to a championship as their going to come in quite some time.

With the 15th pick in the NBA Draft the Bucks have officially notified their fans that they are once again, rebuilding.

Watching the ESPN coverage of the NBA Draft, Bill Simmons said that the Bucks are “stuck in neutral” and that was considered by the rest of the panel as a compliment.  Jalen Rose went on to add that the Bucks are a destination that no free agents wants to come to and they “traditionally underpay”.

This pick, the coverage, the snide comments all left me feeling that the Bucks are going to be a “take it or leave it” kind of franchise and that worries me.   Anyone in the entertrainment business knows that you either want to be loved or hated but the worst you can be is mediocre and a non-factor.

What you have now is a franchise in flux, with no real star and the possibility that the current owner, Senator Kohl, will sell this team to someone who, if they can’t get a new arena, will want to take the Bucks to another city.

I was told a few years ago by a businessman here in the state of Wisconsin that if the Bucks looked as if they were going to be moved, he and “his group” would buy them to keep them here but they really don’t want to own an NBA franchise.

Let’s hope that this same business owner has the same thoughts today.

They’re gone within 2 years…the Seattle Bucks Super sonics Rainiers…whatever you want to call them. The most nondescript franchise in American pro sports. No reaction whatsoever when they made the pick.

John Hammond you need to go after this disaster, there were plenty of players available that may not be superstars but could help excite the fan base, what you drafted a 18 yr old kid that will probably be left to play in Europe and a shooting guard that never played a minute in college because of academics puzzles me and the rest of the fan base as to wonder if you should be the gm. At least Portland the place your rumored to end up after Milwukee had a good draft.

This is a brilliant pick for marketing merchandise. Anyone wanting this rookie’s replica jersey will have to buy two — with half his last name on each! (Please note heavy sarcasm.)
