Don’t Blame Silberman, Blame The NFL

Lauren SilbermanSome are calling it a coup, I am calling it a publicity stunt that should never have been taken seriously.

No offense to Lauren Silberman, she may have kicked herself into NFL history but she did it in embarrassing fashion.

Silberman became the first woman to try out at a regional combine this past Sunday.  She lasted all of two kicks, none of which traveled even 20 yards.  Silberman strained her quad muscle and that pretty much ended her day and her dreams of making it into the NFL.

The NFL got what they wanted, publicity.  Period.

Let’s be honest here, there was never a chance of this Wisconsin club soccer player making it any further than the regional try out.

The NFL is simply too brutal a sport.  There are many sports that men and women could compete on an equal platform but NFL football is nowhere near one of them.

The NFL should worry more about their lawsuits for hiding concussion information or why there is such a disparaging number of minority head coaches and front office personnel in the league instead of traipsing a woman out at the combine.

I’m not blaming Silberman here, hell if I’m in her position I’d take advantage of the opportunity as well but the NFL should know better.

The good ole’ boy NFL wants you to think that they’re interested in diversity but it’s no better than Augusta National opening its doors to female members under the premise of a new awakening when in reality they’re merely bowing down to the almighty sponsor dollars and network pressure.

Silberman and her efforts should be taken seriously but the NFL’s motives should not.
