Let me start off by saying that I think Mike McCarthy is a quality head coach, as well as a innovative offensive mind but after 4 quarterbacks, projects, have come and gone how good is he as a developer of talent?
I once got into a discussion with Aaron Rodgers about his success McCarthy’s hand in that success. Rodgers expressed to me, “I had a lot to do with that (success)”, almost as if to infer that McCarthy didn’t have as much of a hand in the development of the NFL superstar as many would think.
We have to give McCarthy credit for Rodgers because, after all, the two have rings to show for their work together. When it comes to the rest, McCarthy’s work with the 5 above mentioned, has been so lackluster that all 5 are now gone from the organization, not even good enough to be a 3rd string QB any longer.
On one hand, I appreciate the fact that Thompson and McCarthy realize when something is not working and are willing to “cut bait” with inadequacy but on the other hand, that draft and develop thing isn’t working in this particular case.
I guess the biggest lesson we have all learned through this process is that if you have superstar talent, it’s more than likely you’ll look like a genius.
