Everything that makes the magic of college basketball the incredible spectacle that it is, happened on Saturday night when the Badgers knocked off the #1 seeded Wildcats of Arizona.
Kentucky’s win over Wichita State, the deep dance of the Cinderella Dayton Flyers; all of the excitement of the tourney thus far was eclipsed by the fundamental up and down game that we witnessed in Anaheim California.
The overtime thrill, the 5 minute instant replay, the last second shot attempt, the unbridled joy and the chants of “Bo Bo Bo Bo” as Coach Ryan climbed the stairs of the ladder to cut down the nets. The Packers Aaron Rodgers yet again leading a joyous Badgers locker room in their final huddle of the night, a dancing 66 year old head coach doing a dance as if he’s clubbin’ on State Street and then revealing to all this this night would have been his dad’s 90th birthday.
The team that most look at as awkward, not as athletic, more defense than offense, old school….whatever the adjective you’d like to insert….it doesn’t matter. For this is the thrilling excitement of the madness that is March and Bo Ryan’s Badgers are still dancing.
