After the NFL and the referees finally bargained a deal, I listened to the national pundits praise Rodger Gooddell as the best commissioner of all.
I rolled my eyes in the “are you serious” manner.
Stern and Gooddell have both had labor disruptions in the last decade. Gooddell has even had a labor disruption with the officials. The NFL had a Super Bowl in which 5,000 ticket holders were told they weren’t allowed in because the seats weren’t safe. Stern has had to make loans to at least 11 NBA teams to keep the franchises afloat. I don’t even want to discuss the NHL because they’re not even playing….again!
Let’s look at Selig;
Yes, he was the governor over the steroid issues but the commissioner got the government commerce chair to finally call the players association on the carpet and thus steroid testing is finally in place. Include that with HGH testing in the minors, a wild card and then a second were added to make the regular season more exciting. We’ve seen interleague play, revenue sharing, a soft salary cap, attendance has risen dramatically and NO LABOR DISRUPTIONS…people may not like Bud for some reason but he’s been, by far, the best sitting commissioner of the 4 major leagues.
