Recently, Piazza fell short of induction into baseball’s hall of fame but he still believes that he belongs there….but hold on a sec.
With the mindset of today’s day and age in regards to steroids Piazza may never get in to Cooperstown.
Piazza is set to release his new book called “Long Shot” where he admits to taking the steroid Andro along with Vioxx and Amphetamines (greenies).
Andro was legal when Piazza took the supplement and so was Vioxx but as we know, many voters consider these performance enhancers, “outside of the spirit of the game” and therefore they will never vote for those who used PEDs.
If you start eliminating every player that either used or was suspected of using, you’re going to keep a lot of great players out of Cooperstown along with a very ugly history.
Like it or not, it’s just that, history. I’m pleading with Cooperstown, don’t ignore it, don’t act as if it never happened, don’t paint a more than rosy picture of the game as a whole. Baseball, like our country is a moving, growing reflection of our society and deserves to be told, remembered and hopefully the cheating never repeated.
