The AP Top 25 and The Coaches Poll are actually used to assess the best teams in the country and thus determine a national champion. The problem with this system is that when those polls first come out, a game hasn’t even been played yet.
How in the world can you tell who is actually worthy of the top spot when no one has taken the field?
The current system is a joke and needs to be changed.
Polls and rankings should not come out until, at least, the 2nd week of your conference schedule, or 6 weeks into the season. Only then will we have a truly better gauge as to who is worthy of being considered one of the best college football teams in the nation.
Writers, coaches and media relations personnel shouldn’t be determining who’s the best before teams strap it on for real….competition on the field should.
