Many of us, man or woman, big or tall, thick or small can enjoy the game of golf. Do you know why we enjoy the frustration of chasing a little while ball around a lush green course? Because it’s up to you and you alone to beat the course…..and, at any given time, you could hit a shot, so perfect, that it may or may not be equaled by the greatest players to ever play the game. A hole in one, a cut shot to the green, a chip in….anything can happen at least once….right?
We can play the greatest courses in the world and compare ourselves to the pros. In no other sport can you really do that. You can’t catch a touchdown pass a Lambeau, you can’t hit a 95 mile an hour fastball out of Miller Park but you can drive the green at Whistling Straits, the site of a PGA and Senior PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup….right…I’m sure you get the picture.
One shot that I’ve never equaled and I hope that I never do is the one shot that Tiger Woods put into the air yesterday, on the 18th at Medinah Country Club outside of Chicago, as the practice round got underway for this year’s Ryder Cup.
You see my friends, Tiger hit an errant tee shot, so poorly, that the ball struck a spectator in the head and knocked him out.
I still don’t have a hole in one to my name but then again, I’ve never knocked out a spectator either. I love it when the pro’s make me feel better about myself.
